I’m not able to call in today but have had a female or immature ruby throated hummingbird at my feeder for the last week. I’m getting worried about her! What can I do? I live in Rocky Mountain House. Thanks!
If it is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird there’s not much you can do. If it is not heading south it may be sick or injured. It will need strength to migrate so I would keep feeding it and hope for the best.
However, at this late date it could be an Anna’s Hummingbird, and if so it might be OK. They are rarely seen in Alberta but have occasionally been seen as late as mid-November. Look for the grey flanks and undertail coverts. If you get a photo you could email it to us at birdscalgary@gmail.com .
Sent a picture, can you identify please? Thanks!
I love to read your informative posts and look at the excellent pictures, thank you!
