Featuring Journey through the Fabled North-west Passage by John McFaul.
The 2025 season of Calgary Birds & Beers kicks off on Thursday January 9th at the Legion, 9202 Horton Road SW. We meet in the big ballroom starting at 5 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend these social get-togethers.
At about 7 pm there will be a presentation by John McFaul on his Journey through the Fabled North-west Passage.
John’s description: The presentation will take the viewers on a 17 day arctic cruise through the North-west Passage from Greenland to Kugluktuk (formerly known as Coppermine). Images of the majestic land and seascapes, the wildlife and the cultural and historical features of this fabled passage are sure to entice everyone to consider undertaking their own journey to Inuit Nunangat – land of the Inuit.
John is a long-time Calgary naturalist and former President of Nature Calgary. He runs the nature guiding company Alpenglow Nature Hikes.
Join us for Birds & Beers!
I am interested in attending the session but have not attended before. The email says that the meeting starts at 5 pm and the presentation starts around 7. What else happens at the meeting?
People sit 2-6 to a table and socialize. Early arrivers may order food and there are also drinks available. Many just have a drink or two, and some people arrive just before the presentation. Any way you want to do it is fine. At 7 pm there are usually some announcements, and we collect some money for the room (it’s only $25 so we ask that people give a dollar if they want, but we usually get way too much money, and donate the surplus to the Legion). Then there is a prize draw as well, before the main presentation starts. Prentations are usually about an hour to an hour and a half, followed by questions and answers.
