The American White Pelican photos were taken during the last week of June and the first week of July in Carburn Park, along the Bow River in SE Calgary, with the exception of the last photo, which was taken on May 10 in the Bankside area of Fish Creek Park, which is also along the Bow in SE Calgary. All photos by Rob English.
Before the work began on redesigning the weir on the Bow in downtown Calgary, you could see up to 100 pelicans fishing below the weir every night in late summer. It was a spectacular sight, but you rarely see any pelicans in that area any more.
