Birds & Beers, April 2020 – CANCELLED

The Birds & Beers event that was scheduled in Calgary for Thursday, April 2, 2020 has been cancelled due to concerns about Covid-19.

Future scheduled Birds and Beers events of Thursday, May 7 and Thursday, June 25 are on hold until further notice.

In the meantime, you can drink beer and watch birds in your yard. That’s what I’ve been doing!

  1. Oh, that must be fun to watch, especially when the youngsters leave the nest. I get the impression these are curious, even friendly birds. Would you agree?

    • Eurasian Collared-Doves are a little wary of people. They are also incredibly careful not to reveal where the nest is (it is just a couple of sticks on a spruce branch) so I’ve never seen it. The young don’t fledge until pretty-much full-grown so I’ve never knowingly seen them either. This year a magpie found the female on the nest and was harassing them. The male chased it off. So I know where the nest was, but I wonder if the doves have moved since the magpie knew where they were.
